Ondo state in southwest Nigeria was created on the 3rd of February, 1976. It has Akure as its capital and is bordered by Kogi, Edo, Ogun, and Delta states. This state is dominated by the Yorubas. However, it is also occupied by people from other tribes.
Below are the tribes in Ondo state.
Yoruba Tribe
The Yoruba tribe in Ondo is the dominant tribe in the state. According to history, the Yorubas in present-day Ondo migrated from ile-ife in Osun state. It is believed that the wife of Oduduwa gave birth to a set of twins. These twins were regarded as a symbol of bad luck. This led her to go into exile with her twins.
The Yorubas in Ondo speak a dialect of the Yoruba language which is known as “the Ondo dialect”. Farming and trading are the major occupations of these people. Also, three religions are practised by these people. They are traditional religion, Christianity, and Islam.
Ijaw Tribe
The Ijaws are a minority tribe in Ondo. They have the same way of life as Ijaws in Rivers and Bayelsa. These people have a violent past and are known to be heavy drinkers.
Farming and fishing are the two major occupations of the Ijaws in Ondo. These people are Christians and are known to eat meals of plantain and fish. Men from Ijaw tie wrapper on singlet while women tie wrapper on the blouse.
Ebira Tribe
The Ebira tribe is a settlement of people that speak a language that is perceived to be funny by other tribes. The notion of having a funny language is perceived as insulting by people of the Ebira tribe. These people are a mixture of Muslims and Christians, although the Muslims in this tribe out-number the Christians.
They are mostly traders and have a culture that appears to be a mixture of Hausa and Yoruba cultures.

It’s only there king is from benin not the whole ikale is from benin, moreover the ikale people are yorubas, mind you there’s no any ebira tribe from ondo state, make research before saying any false history…Abeg.
There is no Ebira’s in Ondo State as tribe, Ebira in the state deos not have a particular land as theres, they are all visitors.
For your information; more than 75% of enthnics group/subgroup in Ondo State are not from Ile-Ife, apart from Akure, Igabras etc, clans/ subethnics like; Owo, Ilaje, Ijaws, Okas and the Akokos migrated from Benin or other area.
Why some erroneously attributing / claiming to have migrated from Ile- Ife is due to limited knowledge and inferiority complex’
