Van Dijk Is Not Bothered By Booing From England Supporters

Virgil Van Dijk has issued a ‘robust’ response to English fans who booed him in their match against the Three Lions saying: “I don’t care”.

The Dutch received a frosty reception from English supporters every time he touched the ball in Netherland’s semi-final win over England.

Football pundit, Gary Lineker described the action as embarrassing in one of his posts on Twitter but Van Dijk stressed that their reactions had no effect on the game.

“I don’t care. If somebody boos me or boos the team, it’s because we are trying to win the game,” said the Liverpool defender.

“We know we have a lot of support behind us anyway. At the end of the day it’s us players who have to do the job. It doesn’t affect me at all.”

Nether1ands lost to Portugal in the finals of the Nations League, no thanks to a goal from Portuguese, Goncalo Guedes with Bernardo Silva providing the assist.

“Yes it’s a tough end to the season. Obviously we wanted to win,” explained Van Dijk.

“But we have to keep our heads up high, recover from this, learn from this whole experience, because we have a young group, and we have to make sure we qualify for the Euros next summer.

He said he would have thought anyone who said Netherlands would be in the finals to be crazy  and they had to beat France, Germany and 3ngland on the road to the finals.

He stressed that the team was proud of their achievements and that they made big progress collectively on and off the pitch and now have the main goal of making it to the Euros.

Van Dijk added:

“Portugal are a totally different team to England. They waited for our mistakes, they sit back a little bit and let us have the ball.

“The pace of the game was not high, especially in the first half, but I don’t think they had too many big chances. In the end they were a bit luckier than we were.”
