The person with the highest vote would have the girl, Inusa was with the highest votes.

Narrating the situation, Mubarak wrote;

Khadija has fallen in love with 2 boys but couldn’t chose 1 between them; none of the boys also ready to accept defeat.

“The elders of Giade town, Bauchi State (with Khadija’s request) conducted an election and Inusa scored highest number of votes, against his rival, Ibrahim.”

Many have reacted to this strange scenario as not only are the girl and boys involved underage but it’s also quite uncommon to see people vote to help someone choose between two suitors.

In 2003, the Childs Rights Act was passed setting the minimum age of marriage at 18. However, not all states in Nigeria acknowledge this passed law. In 2017, Nigeria was declared the 11th country in the world with the highest percentage of child marriages.
