We Had Civil War in Kogi, Not Election – Dino Melaye
- Melaye vows to report Governor Yahaya Belo and his allies to the international community.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial rerun election, Dino Melaye, has said no election was held in Kogi.
Saturday’s governorship polls had witnessed violence in some parts of the state, and some lost their lives in the process.
According to Melaye, who is currently losing to Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), it was a civil war that took place in the state. According to him, 16 people died during the elections.

“He writes on his Twitter page: “What we had in Kogi is no election, what we had was a civil war that has claimed 16 lives so far. I will report Bello, Smart Adeyemi.Taofik, Speaker Kolawole, and Sunday Faleke to the international community and then proceed to Hague. This I promise.SDM,” he wrote.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Governor Yahaya Bello winner of the governorship poll. Bello polled a massive 406,222 votes to defeat his contestant, Musa Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 189,704 votes to emerge second.

Results were canceled in five Registration Areas due to violence and disruption of the electoral process and threats to life.
Wada has vowed to challenge the outcome in court. Melaye, on the other hand, has also promised to report the governor and his allies to the international community.
