1. Go to the Gmail sign-in page and click the “Forgot Password” link.
2. Input the last password you can remember. If you can remember a correct password and have once initiated a backup system, you’ll be asked to continue in a variety of ways.
If you can’t remember any of them, tap “Try a different question.”
3. Input the secondary email address you used when you set up your Gmail account to get a password reset email.
A code and a link will be sent to the secondary email address (recovery email).
Your secondary email account mustn’t be Gmail. The 6-digit code enables you to set up a new password and regain access to your account.
Check your mail on the secondary account to view the code, enter it to unveil a new password generator.
New accounts may also have a phone number backup option.
If the backup option doesn’t work, you’ll need to click “Try a different question” again.
There are older and less secure methods of account protection, like security questions such as “what’s your mother’s maiden name.”
You should be able to answer at most one of these questions. After this, create a new password and confirm it.
Now you can access your account again. Ensure your new password is strong, secure and memorable.
After you’ve created a new password, you’ll be prompted by Google to check the security settings associated with your Gmail account.
It’s advised you add phone number and a current backup email, if you don’t already have these associated with your account.
This will allow easy recovery via a 6-digit code delivered by email or text message.
Gmail no longer support or allows you to add security questions.This is because security questions doesn’t provide actual security.
Once you’ve gain access to your Gmail account, go to the Google account Settings page by clicking your profile image (it’s just the first letter of your first name) in the upper-right corner, then tap “My Account.”
Tap “Sign in to Google”on the page. On the sign-in page, you can check your recovery email and phone number again, and see which devices last accessed your account and from what locations.
You may want to explore other options on the sign-in page. It’s highly recommended you set up two-factor authentication.
If you use Gmail account on your smartphone, you can get an authentication prompt on it instead of having to manually type the password on the web.
