Wilder Defends WBC World Heavyweight Title With Brutal 43 Seconds KO
Deontay Wilder executed a first round knockout of Dominic Breazeale to defend his WBC World Heavyweight title in New York.
Wilder, 33, extended his record to 41 wins and a draw from 42 duels, taking out Breazeale in only 43 seconds of the opening round.
Breazeale was on the ropes in the opening minutes of the bout before finding a shot to respond to Wilder.
Wilder then finished off the fight only seconds later with a strong right hand.
After being declared Victor, Luis Ortiz who had defeated last year approached him in the ring. When quizzed about whether he thought of the possibility of fighting Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury, the 33-yr-old said no doors are closed and that such fights were always a possibility.
“All parties involved are talking,” the 33-yr Old revealed to Showtime. “There’s too many people and opinions involved. It will take our teams to sit down, handle things, squash everything and get it done for the fans.
“The big fights will happen the way we all benefit. We risk our lives in here, so let us get our time to iron out our differences and you guys will know when it happens.”
Breazaele who had only lost for the second time in his career with his first career loss against Anthony Joshua in 2016 left the ring without talking to the media, fresh from a punch that had left him sprawling on the ground and in no good shape to answer the count.
Wilder will face a World Boxing Council for the comments he had made in the build-up to the game.
He said:
“This is the only sport where you can kill a man and get paid for it at the same time,” Wilder had said in the build-up. “It’s legal.”
Heavyweight focus would now turn to Anthony Joshua’s defence of his belt against American Rudy Ruiz Jr.
