Willian Calls On Chelsea To Be More Clinical In Front Of Goal

Willian has called on Chelsea to be more clinical in the final third. The West Londoners were wasteful in front of goal but still ended up thumping Brighton and Hove Albion to a 2-0 win.

The Brazilian said that the Blues needed to be less wasteful in front of goal if they are to reach their target for the campaign.

The Blues were pretty wasteful against Brighton and Hove Albion but were still too strong for the visitors.

However, an excellent performance from Brighton and Hove Albion’s goalie, Matt Ryan combined with poor finishing from Pedro, Alonso and Barkley almost left Chelsea gifting all three points to the visitors.

The visitors grazed the crossbar before Willian ensured a comfortable win with his goal.

“The game could have been 3-0 or 4-0,” the 31-year-old told the club’s official website. “In the first half we created a lot of chances and I think we have to be more clinical.

“We cannot miss chances like this and we have to now think about the next game.

“We needed [the win]. We have been working hard every day, every game and this time we finally got the result, got the three points at home and we have to carry on. We have to continue in the same way.”

The victory against Brighton wasn’t just Chelsea’s first home win under the stead of Frank Lampard; it was also their first clean sheet.

Willian hopes that his side could build on their recent victory and at the same time keep the defence shutout.

“I enjoy it a lot. I enjoy myself, I enjoy it with my team-mates and I have pleasure to play with them and this is what I want – to have pleasure, play, enjoy myself on the pitch and get the results,” the winger said.

“The clean sheet means we get confidence now. We will have more confidence in the next games and we have to carry on the same way.

“If we want to stay at the top end of the table we have to win points and win games, so we go for it. We have to keep pushing and working hard, and I think we can do that.”
