Xavi Donates €1m To Barcelona Hospital To Battle Coronavirus

Former Barcelona midfielder, Xavi has matched donations made by Barcelona favorites in Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola.

The legendary midfielder donated a huge sum of €1million to help Barcelona hospital in the war against Coronavirus.

The hospital clinic has been treating patients suffering from the virus as well as making extensive research into finding a cure for the disease.

The hospital in questions has previously asked for donations from well meaning individuals as they look to buy respiratory, medical equipment ad personal protection from members of their staff.

The former Spain International and manager of Al-Sadd along with his wife, Nuria Cunillera who doubles asa journalist donated heavily to help the hospital in their fight against Coronavirus.

Xavi’s donation matches those of his former manager, Pep Guardiola and teammate, Lionel Messi who donated same figure to the same hospital last month.

Since the outbreak in Spain, more than 11,700 people have died from the virus. Although Saturday saw a decrease in the number of deaths reported daily for the second time in a row, it is still significantly high. The government is therefore putting measures in place to tighten their restrictions as they aim to contain the further spread of the virus.

Prime minister Pedro Sanchez is thought to be looking into requesting the Spanish parliament extend the current lockdown a further 15 days. The lockdown in the country was initially scheduled to end on April 11.

The country has been in lockdown for three weeks now with all activities termed non-essential brought a halt for a week now.

It remains unclear when European leagues will resume as each league looks into solutions for the disruptions the Coronavirus outbreak has caused. However, it has been suggested that the leagues could be back again in July.

According to Goal, the Spanish FA and other authorities are looking into bringing everything to normalcy very soon as they make plans to resume matches behind closed doors.
