Yahoo Boy Sentenced to Six Months Imprisonment

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sentenced a remorseful yahoo boy (Internet fraudster) to six months imprisonment.

According to reports, the yahoo boy identified as Ogundele Adeseye was convicted by Justice Babangana Ashigar of a Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State on Wednesday (April 10 2019) after he pleaded “guilty” to the charge leveled against him.

The 24-year-old was previously arraigned on a five-count charge, which was later reduced to one count after a plea bargain.

The charge had read:

That you, Ogundele Adeseye, sometimes in July 2018 or thereabouts in Ilorin within the jurisdiction of this honourable court by means of fraudulent trick that you are a white Caucasian and interested in having a relationship, obtained the cumulative sum of $500 (Five Hundred Dollars) in form of iTunes gift cards from one Chase Gliglia, an American Citizen whom you met on seeking.com website (sugarbabysite) by chatting with her using the emailbrysonwillians567@gmail.com and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under section 421 of the Criminal code act.

The yahoo boy pleaded:

My lord, I have learnt my lessons, I have realized that crime and criminality is not good, I am pleading with your lordship to temper justice with mercy.

Following the plea bargain agreement that was reached, the trial judge tempered justice with mercy to serve as a deterrent to other intending fraudsters.

He ruled:

In accordance with plea bargain agreement, I hereby convict the defendant and sentence him to six months imprisonment

The remorseful Ogundele, however, burst into tears when he was being led to Mandala Prisons by prison officials.
