Zenit St. Petersburg Sign Barcelona’s Malcom

Barcelona winger, Malcom has made a switch to Russian giants, Zenit St. Petersburg for a fee of €40million, plus €5m more in variables, the Blaugranas announced on Friday.

Negotiations between both Barcelona and Zenit St. Petersburg reached advanced stage on Tuesday and Wednesday as the Russia giants emerged the frontrunners for the capture of the 22 year old.

“FC Barcelona and Zenit Saint Petersburg have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira,” the Catalan club said on their website on Friday.

“The Russian team will pay FC Barcelona 40 million euros plus 5 million euros in variables.”

The Russian side also announced the arrival of the Brazilian winger on their official website

“Malcom is here. Zenit and Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Brazilian winger,” Petersburg wrote on their website.

Malcom who now makes a move to Russia one year after a hijacked deal from Roma made only 24 appearances for Barcelona finding the net four times.

The former Bordeaux player endured a difficult time with the Catalan giants, struggling to break into Ernesto Valverde’s first team setup because of the huge competition in the front line.

The Brazilian winger has the right wing has his most preferred position but the position is hugged tightly by Argentine talisman, Lionel Messi who is impossible to displace.

Malcom will join seven other South Americans at the Russian side who are now captained by former Chelsea player, Branislav Ivanovic.

Before his switch to Barcelona, the winger had a brilliant 2017/2018 for French side, Bordeaux helping the club to sixth place finish on the Ligue 1 standings with 12 goals scored in 35 appearances.
