Zola Says Chelsea Will Lodge Complaint About Offensive Burnley Comment Made To Sarri

Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola has said that he expects Chelsea to exercise a formal complaint with the Football Association (FA) after Burney’s backroom officials reportedly offended the club’s gaffer, Maurizio Sarri in the teams’ entertaining 2-2 draw at the Stamford Bridge.

The Italian gaffer had refused to grant the media audience after the London blues lacklustre draw with Sean Dyche’s side, incensed at being sent off and reportedly abused by the Clarets coaching team.

Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger and Burnley goalkeeper coach, Billy Mercer also had to be separated after the final whistle, as a series of ugly tussles and encounters ensued after the final whistle at the Bridge.

Brazil International, David Luiz and Ashley Westwood also clashed as both teams left the pitch, afterwards, Gonzalo Higuain was seen throwing a bottle into the dugout in protest to his replacement with few minutes left on the clock before the close of the game.

As if that was not enough trouble and reason to worry for Chelsea, Callum Hudson-Odoi confirmed on social media that he had sustained a ruptured Archilles tendon injury that could see him keep to the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

When asked whether Chelsea would contact the FA over Maurizio Sarri’s frustrations, Zola had this to say:

“I think there will be a follow up on that. Maurizio felt very unhappy.

“We understand that it is a football game. You say words because of the adrenaline, but he wasn’t particularly happy. If Maurizio said that, probably, it’s something that could have been avoided.”

Zola was also asked why Sarri didn’t make an appearance at the press conference to which he responded by saying that it was due to the Italian gaffer’s frustrations, a reason why he chose to stay off.

“He’s been sent off. I think he’s been offended as well, so he didn’t feel it was the right thing to do, to speak to you.”
