Muslim Council Canvasses Removal Of Taraba SSG Over Alleged ‘Hate Speech’

On Monday, the Muslim Council of Nigeria in Taraba State called on the state’s Gov. Darius Ishaku to remove the Secretary to the Taraba State Government (SSG), Anthony Jellason, over a controversial audio recording purporting that the top government official hates Islam.

The Acting Chairman of the council, Ahmed Bose, at a press briefing in Jalingo, the Taraba capital, said that his attention was drawn to the said audio and described the content as “hate speech.”


Election: Police Deploy 5,000 Personnel In Plateau

Ahead of the forthcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Police Command, Plateau says it has deployed 5,000 personnel to ensure law and order during the two elections.

Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, Commissioner of Police in the state made the disclosure during a news briefing in Jos on Monday.

Crisis Rocking SDP Assumes New Dimension As Gana Faction Endorses Atiku

The crisis rocking the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday, took another dimension, as a faction of the Party loyal to Professor Jerry Gana announced the suspension of its Acting National Chairman Professor Tunde Adeniran and Alhaji Shehu Gabam, the National Secretary and Vice Presidential Candidate respectively

It also approved the appointed Mr Supo Sonibare the former National Vice Chairman (South-west) as the Acting National chairman of the party.


Atiku, Makinde Will Win Oyo Landslide ― Oyo PDP Chairman

The chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyo state, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha has declared that the party’s presidential and gubernatorial candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will win February 16 and March 2 polls in the state with wide margin.

Mustapha disclosed this in a statement released after the team concluded its local government tour which lasted about four weeks.


INEC To Track Campaign Finance, Inaugurates Monitoring Group

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it was determined to track campaign finance of political parties.

One of its national commissioners, Professor Anthonia Okosi – Simbina made the declaration during the inauguration of the Inter-agency campaign finance monitoring Group on Monday in Abuja.


Elections: Former US President Clinton Cancels Trip To Nigeria

Former US President Bill Clinton has cancelled his trip to Nigeria ahead of Saturday’s general elections, saying the visit could be “politicized.”

Clinton was scheduled to visit the capital, Abuja, this week alongside Baroness Patricia Scotland, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.


Election: Threats From APC, Buhari Campaign Group, Worrisome ― PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the incessant threats by the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Nigerians and international bodies that are committed to peaceful 2019 general election is worrisome.

Elections: Buhari’s campaign criticises US ambassador, other Western diplomats

President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign organisation has criticised the United States’ Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, over his repeated calls for free, fair and peaceful elections in Nigeria.

The campaign organisation, in a statement by its spokesperson, Festus Keyamo, said it was “deeply concerned about many of the expressions” of Mr Symington and other “Western diplomats.”


National Sports Festival: Okowa Gives N403 Million To Medalists

The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, rewarded excellence on Monday in a rare event by dolling out cash rewards worth more than N403 million to athletes who participated in the 19th edition of the National Sports Festival tagged, Abuja 2018.

It was a colourful event attended by the athletes, sports officials, members of their families, wife of the governor, Dame Edith, and sports lovers at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.


Police Arrest Uber Driver’s Alleged Killer

The police in Lagos have arrested two men who allegedly killed an Uber driver and stole his Hyundai Elantra car.

Peter Robert, 33, and Gideon Achibong, 36, were arrested on February 4 at about noon in Aboki Estate, Lekki, while removing the car parts for sale to a scrap metal dealer, the police said in a statement on Monday.
