Kano Suspends Ban on Opposite Sex Riding Tricycle

The Kano State Government has reversed its decision on men and women sitting together on the same tricycle,

The announcement is following public outrage. Commander-General of Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Harun Ibn-Sina, announced the suspension of the order during a radio broadcast in Kano.

According to him, the decision was to enable wider consultation before the enforcement of the law initially planned to take effect from January 1, 2020, noting that the state government took the initial step in compliance with principles of Sharia law.

“The law has been suspended till further notice. The decision was taken after consultation with the leadership of commercial tricycle operators who pleaded for extending the implementation date.”

According to reliable sources,  the Hisbah commandant General will brief the press later today over the suspension of the ban.
