Lampard Frustrated After Chelsea Second Defeat At Home

Frank Lampard has been left frustrated after Chelsea for the second time on the bounce suffered a home defeat, this time to struggling Southampton.

The English boss suggests that the London Blues need to get better at breaking down their opponents.

The Blues lost on Boxing day by a 2-0 scoreline to the Saints, thanks to goals from Michael Obafemi and Nathan Redmond.

That defeat is Chelsea’s second consecutive loss at the Stamford Bridge. The Blues have won only two of their last seven Premier League games, though they came out tops against London rivals, Tottenham last week.

Lampard insisted that Chelsea’s weaknesses were made public once again as they failed to stand up to the occasion in front of the home crowd.

“It felt the same as recent games. They were organised. We need to be better at breaking teams down,” the Chelsea legend said after the game.

“I think we have enough to be better than we were today. It needs to be a quick learning process now. When there is no space it’s a different question.”

With Chelsea trailing 1-0 at the interval, Lampard replaced Zouma with Mount but the attacker couldn’t make the kind of impact the English boss would have hoped for.

Another goal by Nathan Redmond compounded their problems and rounded up another home defeat for Chelsea.

The former Derby County boss added to Match of the Day: “Teams are making it difficult here. We are not making enough chances, we were at the beginning of the season. We are being asked a different question at home. At the moment we are not answering them. We do not manage to pick up that final pass.

“Against Tottenham we had space to make runs and today we had none. It changes things. We did not do it right today. I think if at the start of the season we would have been happy where we are. We are good away but we have to make it difficult to come here.”
