Yusuf Maitama Sule University was established in the year 2012. It is a very young state university and was formerly known as North West University. The institution was established to tackle the deteriorating state of education in Kano state. In addition, the state government at the time felt the need to increase access to university education for secondary school graduates. Yusuf Maitama Sule University is still popularly referred to as NWU from its former name.

NWU Admission

Yusuf Maitama Sule university has specific admission requirements for prospective students such as UTME and O’level requirements. The minimum required UTME score for admission into Yusuf Maitama Sule University is 160. Therefore candidates who score at least 160 in the UTME qualify for the NWU post UTME and may eventually be offered admission into the university.

Also, prospective candidates must possess at least five O’level credits in not more than tow sittings.

Yusuf Maitama Sule University NWU School Fees

The school fees schedule is released every session. Usually it is subsidised for Kano State indigenes. The fees is between N311- N35, 000 for new students of Kano origin. Then for Non-indigenes, it is between N116- N120, 000. Meanwhile for foreign (international) students, the fees is between N331- N335, 000
