Miguel Almiron To Miss Remainder Of The Season With Hamstring Injury

Miguel Almiron, Newcastle record signing and deep-lying playmaker will be facing a race against time to regain fitness for the Copa America this summer after being ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury.

The Paraguayan was seen leaving the pitch in tears during the second forty-five minutes of the Magpies 3-1 win over Southampton suggesting that the extent of the damage was very fatal.

Newcastle United have now confirmed via their official website, www.nufc.co.uk that the 25-yr-old will not feature for the remaining three games of the season.
In an official statement, they said:

“The 25-year-old was withdrawn in the 64th minute against the Saints and, having been assessed by the club’s medical staff, it has been confirmed that he will not be fit for the Magpies’ final three matches of the campaign.

“The club have already been in communication with – and will continue to liaise with – the Paraguayan Football Association ahead of this summer’s Copa America, which the player could still feature in depending on his recovery.”

The Copa America will get underway on the 14th of June with Paraguay locking horns with Qatar on the third day of the competition.

Miguel Almiron has made a superb impression in the hearts of Newcastle fans and Rafael Benitez alike since completing his £21 million move to St. James Park in the January transfer window.

Although the Paraguayan International is yet to record an official goal for the Magpies, he has produced a decent number of shots on target and has injected pace and direct approach to the team’s play, one in which striker Salomon Rondon has greatly benefitted from.

He has been greatly instrumental to securing Newcastle United place in the top flight for the third straight season since their promotion to the top tier.
