A new report has made it known that a testimonial match was played at the Agege stadium in Lagos state yesterday in honour of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.

The report made it known that the testimonial involved football legends from Nigeria and from some African countries.

According to the reports, the testimonial match was played to mark the end of Akinwunmi Ambode’s tenure as the Lagos State Governor.

The Gov. in his statement made it known that it was an honour for him to host African football legends, he also applauded everyone that help make the match a reality.

It was an honour to host African football legends at Lagos House, Alausa this morning, ahead of the testimonial football match in my honour scheduled for tomorrow at the Agege Stadium. Please join us.

Football legends from Nigeria and other African countries converged today at the Agege Stadium to play a testimonial football match in my honour; to mark the end of my tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.

I am deeply honoured by this gesture and I appreciate everyone who made this testimonial match a reality; the organisers, the players, all the people who came to watch and all Lagosians. Thank you all. I am very grateful.

Gov. Akinwumi Ambode was unable to secure a second term during the All Progressive Congress APC primary election, he went ahead to lose to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is set to take over from him in few days time.
