Rhino Poacher Trampled By Elephants and Devoured By Lions in South Africa

A man who is said to be a poacher was trampled to death by elephants in a South Africa Wildlife Reserve. And then eaten by lions.

His skull was found by Rangers of the park.

It was reported that the man invaded the National Park to hunt rhinos with his accomplices when the elephants attacked. The accomplices immediately fled the scene leaving his body.

They informed his family of what had happened and when they all returned to the spot, his body was nowhere to be found.

The situation was reported to the park officials who immediately began the search for the body. Nothing was found that day after the search by air.

They started the search again in the bush the next day. The rangers reported that there were lions everywhere and it was obvious they must have devoured his body.

Took the rangers more than two days before the man’s skull, trousers and a shoe were found.

However, it was reported that the family were relieved that they found a part of him that could be buried.

The four accomplices were arrested for poaching and shall soon appear in court.

Most of Africa’s remaining rhinos are found in four countries – South Africa, Kenya,  Zimbabwe and Namibia

South Africa is known to have 80% of the world’s Rhino Population.

South Africa also suffers the highest concentration of poaching especially at the Kruger Park where the incident happened.

In 2018, 769 rhinos were poached in South Africa alone. In 2017, it was a thousand.

Rhino poaching is a lucrative business especially for their horns.

Rhino horns are valuable components of traditional Asian medicines. The medicines are used to cure a range of illnesses especially in China, Vietnam and other parts of East Asia.

Following the incident, Kenya announced that there would be a death penalty for animal poachers.

No matter their nationality, they shall face execution.
