Police Apprehend Suspects Over Violent Clashes In Cross River State

Several supporters have been apprehended in connection with the violent clashes which involved the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etung local government area of Cross River State.

The clashes between supporters of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) left several people seriously injured.

DSP Irene Ugbo, who is the Police Relations Officer,  confirmed that some suspects have been apprehended in connection with the violence in Etung local government area of Cross River State.

However, DSP Irene Ugbo, the Police Relations Officer, did not specify the number of those people that were arrested in connection of the violence.

The clashes between supporters of PDP and APC happened last weekend after supporters of both parties allegedly destroyed the campaign billboards of the governorship candidate of APC identified to be Senator John Owan-Enoh and also the Central Senatorial District candidate of the PDP identified also to be Dr. Sandy Onor.

During the clashes of the two supporters of APC and PDP, it was also alleged that the home of the Commissioner for Water Resources identified to be Gabe Odu-Oji, in Etomi in Etung Local Government Area was allegedly burnt but not to ashes.

There have been series of accusations that the leader of the violence group which drove towards the direction of the state Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, which is also one of the governorship candidate aspiring to be Governor.

According to Prof. Ben Ayade, he stated clearly that he was not desperate to run for the post of a governor during the March 2 gubernatorial election which he labeled as inhuman and barbaric.

Prof Ben Ayade also called on the law enforcement agencies to make sure that the offenders of the law should be apprehended and charged to court.
