Police Officers Dislodged by Hoodlums in Delta

According to reports, some street urchins launched a scathing attack on police officers who were on a stop-and-search duty in Asaba, Delta State.

According to reports, the hoodlums left the scene  of the attack with two service rifles.

It was also gathered that two police officers involved in the attack sustained life threatening wounds and have been taken to the hospital.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around Interbua roundabout by ASCON Oil Filling Station, along the popular Nnebisi road on Saturday night.

A source who witnessed the attack told our correspondents that the gunmen were driving a tricycle from the Anwai axis of the road when they suddenly disembarked to attack their victims.

Information gathered showed that the hoodlums who were four in number in the tricycle were armed with axes and cutlasses, adding that they successfully stole two guns from their targets.

The officer in charge of the Police team on duty, an inspector, was reported to have sustained severe cuts to the head and other parts of his body, while the other victim sustained cuts to the hands.

According to eyewitnesses, the police officers who sustained injuries were currently receiving treatment in Asaba at different hospitals.

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state Chuks Orisewezie, when he was reached to confirm the situation, told reporters that the attack really happened, and officers who were on duty during the attack sustained injuries.
