Biography of Davido

David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido is an American born Nigerian performer. He is a versatile singer, Songwriter and music producer. Davido together with his elder brother Adewale Adeleke owns a record label known as HKN music. He also owns his own record label, Davido Music Worldwide, DMW. Davido’s music has won him many awards both home and abroad.

Davido’s Early Life

Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia on the 21st of November, 1990 to Dr Deji and Prof Vero Adeleke. His father is a Nigerian business magnate while his mother Dr  Vero Adeleke (now late) was a university lecturer said to have taught in Babcock University.

At a very young age, Davido relocated to Lagos, Nigeria alongside his mom and had his secondary education at the British International School Lagos. Davido was a student of Business Administration at the Oakwood University, Alabama, USA where he later dropped out due to bad grades and relocated to London to further develop his vocals. However, he soon left for Nigeria where he slow pedalled his music career and enrolled at Babcock University in honour of his father’s wish. Davido was said to have grabbed a music degree from Babcock from the department of music his father paid the school to set up.

 

Davido’s Rise to Fame

Davido’s rise to fame began in 2011 when he started working on his debut album “Omo Baba Olowo”. His first musical recording was titled “Back When” and was his debut album’s lead single. The recording was labelled a major hit and got a lot of airplay. According to Davido’s exclusive interview with Factory 78, “Back When” was recorded in London.

By October 30 of the same year, Davido released another song “Dami Duro”, coproduced with Shizzi. The video came during the period of “Occupy Nigeria” protests and contributed to Davido’s rise to stardom.

In May 2012, Davido released another single “Overseas” through HKN Music. An incomplete version of Overseas was reportedly leaked prior to the time the song was officially released.

Davido released “Gobe”, his second studio album’s lead single in 2013. The song was rated second on Premium Times list of top songs that year. After “Gobe”, he released another single “One of a Kind” which was followed by a third release “Skelewu”

Later same year, Skelewu was released. It was ranked fifth after Gobe on Premium Times top songs of 2013 and made the top of Afribiz’s Top 100 chart.

Another video “Aye” was released on February 2, 2014 making the fourth single to be released form the upcoming album. “Aye” was also directed by Clarence Peters. ”Tchelete” was released next in April 2014. The song featured the South African duo Mafikizolo and was produced by Oskido and Shizzi

In the year 2014, Davido collaborated with other popular artistes to make a song for Africa Rising campaign by DSTV. The other artists included Mi Casa, Lola Rae, Sarkodie and Tiwa Savage. The song was targeted at encouraging Africans to engage in social community based investment projects.

In 2015, Davido relaesed a song in made in collaboration with American rapper Meek Mill titled “Fan Mi”.

Davido’s Awards and Endorsements

Davido has bagged several national and international awards including the best African act at MOBO awards in 2017. In 2018, he became the first African Based artist to receive an award on the main stage of BET awards. The Award was presented to him by Omari Hardwick and Tika Sumpter, both Hollywood artists. Currently, Davido has appeared in over 70 nomination lists and has won about 30 of these. Among them are the, City People Entertainment Awards, Dynamix Al Youth Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards, The HEadies, BET award. Kora Award, Ghana Music Award, Soul Train Awards and African Muzik Magazine Awards.

Davido has also snared a number of endorsement deals. In 2012, it was reported by Nigerian Entertainment Today that he signed a 30 million deal with MTN to become the face of MTN pulse.

In 2013, Pulse also released claimed that Davido has been endorsed by Guinness Nigeria. Consequently, Davido performed at the Guinness Wold of More Concert with other artistes like Chindima, D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Burna Boy and Olamide.

Guardian Life in 2018, also reported that Davido had signed an endorsement deal with a Nigeria smartphone manufacturing company, Infinix.

Davido’s Net worth 2019

Davido’s records and musical shows are unsurprisingly high selling in and out of Nigeria and these coupled with his endorsements have brought the young singer a great deal of fortune. According to Forbes, Davido’s net worth in Dollars was about $16 million. Davido was featured on the top 10 list of Forbes richest musician in Africa 2019.  It has also been reported that Davido has a crop of luxuries in terms of houses, cars and other valuable assets. His flock of cars include a Toyota Land Cruiser, Mercedes Benz Sedan AMG series, Porsche Carrera, Audi 2015 Model, Range Rover Sport 2015, Mercedes Benz AMG series G- class and Rolls Royce Phantom

Davido’s Relationship

Davido has had quite his fair share of controversies as regards relationships. He was reported to have had a fight over child custody in 2015. He was reportedly involved a brawl with Sophia Momodu over the custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke. Vanguard Newspaper reported that the fight started after Sophia and her family filed a petition against Davido for child trafficking. Davido was said to have refuted the claims but still apologised to popular Dele Momodu, Sophia’s cousin.

Currently, Davido relationship status is common knowledge as he has been seen frequently with girlfriend Chioma Avril Rowland, Popularly referred to a “chefchi”, her handle on Instagram.

Davido’s Children

Davido has two daughters, Hailey Veronica and Imade Aurora to two different women. Davido’s first daughter, Imade was born in 2015 and her mother is Sophia while his second daughter Hailey was born in 2017 by a woman named Amanda.

Davido’s Latest Albums

Davido’s albums include “Omo baba Olowo” released in 2012, “Best of Davido” and “The Baddest”, 2015 and “Son of Mercy “ released in 2016.

Davido is quite young but very talented. He is well known for supporting fellow artistes and assisting them to rise even though they may be within the same age range. For instance, he is like a music father and encourager to Mayorkun, Yonda and Peruzzi. Davido is always in the spotlight so fans can expect more news on Davido soon.
