Chief Press Secretary To The Taraba State Governor And Others Kidnapped By Unknown Gunmen

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) identified as Hassan Mijinyawa, to the Governor of Taraba State, Darius Dickson Ishaku, has been reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen in the state.

Hassan Mijinyawa was reportedly known to have been kidnapped while he was going to Gembu, along Bali-Gashaka axis of the road, in order to join the Governor of Taraba state, Darius Dickson, who is on a campaign tour of the area.

David Akinremi who is the Commissioner of Taraba Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that some personnel have been deployed to the area to begin the search and rescue of the victims as well.

The Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Haruna Manu, further confirmed the incident to sources in Jalingo, the state capital of Taraba state.

Haruna Manu stated that contact had not been made yet with the kidnappers, but further urged the public to pray for the safe release of Hassan Mijinyawa as well as other victims who were kidnapped.

Hajiya Sekina Mijinyawa, the wife of the abducted Chief Press Secretary, also confirmed the incident to sources close to the area.

In her statement, she said:

“My husband left home for Gembu in Sardauna Local Government area at about 7am this morning only for him to be kidnapped on the way.”

Hajiya Sekina Mijinyawa, however, begged the kidnappers to have mercy on her husband and release him without him being hurt.

Yusuf Garba who is also identified to be a witness who narrowly escaped stated that some government officials and a foreign national were among the victims of the kidnapping scheme.

According to him, he also said that the foreigner, who was an aid worker, was heading to a camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area.

Yusuf Garba explained how the kidnappers operated for several hours and finally led their victims into a forest which is close.
