Edo police command arrests 682 crime suspects between Jan. to June — Commissioner of Police

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Edo Mr Haliru Gwandu, says the command arrested 682 crime suspects in the state between January and June 2017. He disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Benin that the suspects were apprehended following 332 reported crimes that took place in the state within the period under review.

According to him, 300 of the suspects had been charged to court. While giving a breakdown of the total figure, he said 43 for kidnapping and 96 were arrested for murder and 221 were arrested for armed robbery. He further explained that 27 suspects were arrested over alleged unlawful possession of fire arms while 295 suspects were arrested over alleged cultism and 49 out of them had been charged to court. Gwandu added that 98 different types of guns, 1,185 live ammunition 28 vehicles, and about 192 live cartridges were recovered in connection with the crimes reported during the period under review.

He however alleged that there had been a drastic reduction in crime and criminal related activities in the state as a result of re-strategising put in place by the command. He restated that the command is commited to make the state crime-free, saying “there is no hiding place for criminals in Edo State.”
