History of Sokoto State Nigeria
Sokoto State is situated in the northern –Western of Nigeria. Its capital is Sokoto. The State has boundaries with Niger Republic (North), Katsina State (East), Niger State (South East), Kwara State (south) and Benin Republic (West). Sokoto State is divided into twenty- Three (23) Local government areas are under three units which are the senatorial Districts Zones. Sokoto state is referred as “Seat of the Caliphate”.
History of Sokoto State
Sokoto State was formed on the 3rd February 1997. The name Sokoto is a local name Sakkwato, the Arabic Origin representing Suk “Market”. The Sultan is called a spiritual leader of the Nigeria Muslims. This state is a region where the homes of many empires and kingdoms of pre-colonial western sudan resides. It includes Gabir and Kebbi kingdom, also Sokoto caliphate. Kebbi state, Zamfara state and Gobir makes up Sokoto State. Fulanis were ruled under the leadership of Usman Dan fodio which started with the Jihad in the early years of the 19th century.

Economy of Sokoto State
Sokoto state is an Agricultural state with traditional way of production, up to 95% of the inhabitants engage in farming activity as a source of livelihood. Examples of the farm produce, Cassava, Millet, Maize, Rice, beans, wheat, potatoes, groundnut, cotton, sugar cane and tobaccos, fruits and vegetables are planted in the state, this includes pawpaw, okra, cabbage, oranges, bananas, cashew, mangos, lettuce spinach, savage.

Government of Sokoto State
Sokoto state has three Arms of Government: they are
- The Executive Arm
- The Legislative Arm
- The Judicial Arm
The Executive Arm of Sokoto State
This Arm is headed by the State governor assisted by the commissioners who the governor appoints to head different ministries of the State. Aminu Tambuwal is the current governor of Sokoto State.
The Legislative Arm of Sokoto State
This is the State house of Assembly in Sokoto State. It is made up of 30 members voted in by the electorates of the 30 constituencies in the State. Salihu Maidaji is the current speaker of the State Assembly.
The Judicial Arm of Sokoto State
This Arm of the State is headed by the chief judge of the State to ensure justice in all areas. The current chief Judge of Sokoto State is Justice Bello Abbas .
