‘I Don’t Understand How Wole Soyinka Won Nobel, Chinua Achebe is Superior’ – Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has resurrected the long old debate in Nigeria’s literature space.

Reno Omokri took to Twitter on Wednesday to question the organisers of Nobel Laureate for awarding Professor Wole Soyinka the award in 1986 and not recognising the work of Chinua Achebe, who he believes is more superior to Soyinka.

Reno pointed out that, he will give Achebe’s works 100 awards out of 100 nominations. He finally expresses his bemusement at the way Nobel ignored Achebe.

He wrote:

Between Chinua Achebe and Professor Wole Soyinka, I would give the Nobel Prize for literature to Achebe 100 times out of 100 times. I still don’t understand how Soyinka got it and Achebe did not. I read their books. Achebe’s works are by far the more superior works of literature.”
