Iwobi Reveals Reason Behind Switch To Everton

Alex Iwobi made a switch to Merseyside club, Everton on transfer deadline to become Marco Silva’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.

He revealed that his desire to shake off the youngster tag at the Emirates and make a name for himself with the Evertonians helped him make the decision.

The 23 year old joined forces with the Toffess on deadline day to join a list of six players who had already joined in the summer namely Ivory Coast’s Jean Philippe Gbamin, Moise Kean, Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and Djibril Sidibe.

The Nigerian International moved to the Goodison Park on a five year deal for a fee of an initial £28 million which could potentially rise to £34 million with add-ons.

Iwobi started in Arsenal’s academy before breaking into the first team where he’s gone on to make 149 senior appearances, finding the net 15 times.

The 23 year old has answered boggling questions regarding why he decided to move away from the club where he started out as a young lad.

“I spoke to the manager and Marcel [Brands] and they almost lured me in,” Iwobi told Everton TV.

“The offer was too attractive for me to turn down. The manager was telling me, ‘There is a spot for you, we will take care of you’. Basically, all the things you want to hear as a player.

“I always had that youngster tag at Arsenal, so hopefully with this move I am able to make a name for myself in the Premier League and create history with Everton.”

He also was full of praise for the other summer signings made by Marco Silva which he saw as a signal of good things to come at the Goodison Park.

“It is exciting times for Everton. I was able to look at the transfers and players they have brought in – some great talent,” the winger continued.

“It is not just me. There were quality players here before [the summer] and they are still here. The manager has worked with Richarlison for a long while and made a name for him.

“Hopefully he can do the same for not just me but Moise Kean and a few others who came in, too.”

The 23 year old is yet to make his debut for the club but us hopeful he could do that when they take on Watford.
