-Jimi Agbaje has decided to quit the party as a result of disagreement with the party leadership in Lagos.
-Chief Tunji Shelle, former PDP chairman in Lagos, blamed him for the party’s loss in the last election.
Jimi Agbaje has been a two-time governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. And he has lost both elections to different opponents from the APC.
First was in 2015 when he lost to Akinwunmi Ambode, and to Sanwo-Olu in the last month’s election.
According to him, he had to leave due to differences between himself and the party leadership. He stated that the party has raised several allegations against him, since he lost the election.
” I have tried to remain focused and ignore all the distractions coming from the leadership of the party. I am making the decision after due considerations with my supporters and loved ones for the sake of peace”.
The former PDP chairmanor Lagos State, Chief Tunji Shelle, has also made a contribution to the recent news, blaming Jimi Agbaje for the poor performance of the party in the last governorship election.
According to him, “To be frank, our governorship candidate was our problem in Lagos State. Well-meaning people intervened to rally everybody together in Lagos. They called us to a meeting and asked us to help him but he refused, saying he doesn’t need help”.
“He became a lone ranger and stand-alone person. Even when we were trying to reinforce his campaign team, he told us point blank that he couldn’t work with people he can’t control. He wants to be a master of all and subject everybody in the party under his control which is not possible”.
“So, we decided to leave him to go and do the job alone and at the end of the day, that is the result we got in Lagos. That is the major reason why PDP failed in Lagos.”
“He defeated the party and defeated himself. The most unfortunate thing is that he doesn’t feel the pain of what he has caused. Also, there was mismanagement of resources too because everybody left him to his fate to do whatever pleased him ”.
Presently, Jimi Agbaje has not spoke about his next moves, or the party he intends to move to next. So we await further news from him.
