1. JAMB Registers Over 300,000 in One Week

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has registered over 300,000 candidates for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in one week.

The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, revealed this to Newsmen on Friday in Lagos.

The board commenced registration of candidates for the 2019 UTME on January10 and it would close on Feb. 21.

2. You’ll Lose if Buhari Wins, PDP Tells S-East Govs.

The Anambra State chairman of the PDP, Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Oseloka Obaze told the South-East governors that they stood the risk of losing their re-election if President Muhammadu Buhari wins on February 16.

Addressing reporters in Awka, Obaze said the governors should not work against the interest of the Igbo in next month’s elections.

The 2017 Anambra State governorship candidate of the PDP said it was the resolve of the majority of the Igbo to PDP Atiku Abubakar alongside his running mate, Peter Obi in the February poll.

3. We’ll not Vote Buhari Unless We Get Minister Slot – FCT Natives

Natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), under the Coalition of Abuja Indigenous Association (CAIA) had announced that they will not vote for President Buhari during the February 16 presidential election unless he appoints a native as a minister.

The natives stated this during a peaceful protest at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja on Thursday.

4. APC Reacts to Atiku’s visit to US, Says a Thief is a Thief Anywhere

The US chapter of the APC has condemned the recent visit of the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar to Washington DC.

Atiku visited the US after 13 years and for the first time since he left office as Nigeria’s vice-president.

But the party in a statement issued by Adeshegun Labinjo, chairman, US chapter of APC said the visit does not absolve Atiku of the corruption allegations against him and should still be held accountable.

“A thief remains a thief no matter where he or she visits. Obviously, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has every reason to have kept off the USA given the cloak of corruption he is wearing,” the statement read.

5. Oshiomhole Says Buhari Needs to Punish Former Govt over Missing $16bn

The National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has charged President Buhari to make it a point of “duty to man and to God” to prosecute those who wasted $16billion on electricity.

Oshiomhole urged Buhari to probe the controversial $16billion power fund “wasted” on the power sector by past administrations of the PDP.

Speaking during the APC Presidential campaign rally in Warri, Delta State, on Thursday, the former Edo State governor also opined that the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar was not fit to rule Nigeria.

6. Kano Govt. Revokes N5bn Road Contracts

The Kano State Government has revoked over N5bn contract for the construction of four major roads in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Garba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Kano.

Garba said the road projects in Bichi and Fagge were awarded on August 2, 2017 and November 13, 2017, with a set completion period of four and 14 months respectively.

However, he said the contracts were revoked following the inability of the contractor to complete the projects despite collecting advance payments of N204.2m and N96.2m respectively.

7. Tekno Regains Voice, Drops Woman

Popular Nigerian music producer, Tekno, real name, Augustine Kelechihas officially dropped ‘Woman,’ his first single for the year which appreciates women.

The Made Men Music Group artist took to his Instagram handle @teknoofficial on Friday to announce the release of the song.

8. Total Lunar Eclipse to Occur on Monday – NASRDA

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on Friday announced that Nigeria will join other countries of the world to experience total lunar eclipse on Monday January 21 2019

The information is in a statement by Dr Felix Alle, the Head, Media and Public Communications of the agency in Abuja.

According to Alle, lunar eclipse is one in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth’s shadow.

He stated that “lunar eclipse occurs only when the sun, earth and moon are exactly aligned with the earth between the two.

9. Nigerian Students to Set Oil Sector Reform Agenda

The Nigerian Economic Students Association (NESA) chapters of the University of Lagos and University of Ilorin will on Saturday 19 set the agenda for oil sector reform for presidential candidates at a debate competition.

The debate, reinvesting Nigeria’s Fuel Subsidy: Pro-poor Growth Versus Social Protection Programmes”, organised by the policy advocacy, The Peter Bauer Foundation (aka The Liberal Forum) is slated to take place at the Freedom Park, Lagos.

Abimbola Agboluaje, secretary of the governing board of The Liberal Forum, said “In 2018, the Federal Government spent about N1 trillion on fuel subsidy while it spent less than N700 billion on education and health.”

10. You Cannot Effectively Rule a Country of Mentally, Emotionally Weak Citizens! – Lagbaja

Legendary singer, Bisade Ologunde, popularly known as Lagbaja, has cautioned politicians in the country.

The masked man took to his Instagram page on Friday and said: “You cannot effectively rule a country where the citizens are mentally and emotionally weak! If war happens, we would lose.”

He also called on the electorate to vote wisely, while using the opportunity to thank all his fans who wished him well as he clocked 59 on Thursday, January 17.
