Rio Ferdinand Set To Return To Manchester United As Sporting Director

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is said to be in talks with the club for a potential return to the club in the capacity of Sporting director according to emerging reports.

United are desperately seeking a U-turn for the club and are in the market for the newly-created position in time for the summer transfer window.
The Red devils are undertaking a massive restructuring and are looking to appoint a Sporting director in a bid to modernize its set-up.

A number of ex-Manchester United players have linked with the role with names like Paul Scholes, Edwin Van der Sar and Eric Cantona receiving mentions at different points.
Ferdinand according to the Dailymail has also been contacted by Vice-president Ed Woodward for a possible return to the club in that capacity.

The American owners of Manchester United have been reported to always maintained interest in the former defender since he left the club for punditry four years ago.

However, some personal circumstances is said to have stopped them from making the signing a possibility.

The report suggests that Rio has been ‘handpicked’ by Woodward amongst other options and surfacing names giving his United history and business experience.

Ferdinand would be in charge of overseeing negotiations on behalf of the club and conducting transfer policies all at once.

Rio Ferdinand spent 12 years at Old Trafford where he made a haul of 10 major titles before making a switch to Queens Park Rangers where he had played out his career before retiring.

The United legend made over 450 appearances in the red shirt under the tutelage of Manchester United legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

It is also understood that Mike Phelan is also the frontrunner to be appointed as the club’s first ever technical director with Paul Scholes the only other name being considered for the role in the revamping.
