Valencia Vs Arsenal Europa League 09 May Preview

Arsenal make a trip to Spain to take on Valencia in the second leg of their Europa league semi-final clash with the Gunners having established a 3-1 advantage over the Spanish outfit.

Valencia had taken an early lead at the Emirates stadium but got stung by a double from Alexandre Lacazzette and a late one by Aubameyang.

Valencia are now in a position where they could qualify for next season’s Champions League competition regardless of the outcome of their Europa league adventure.

However to make sure of that they would have to record victories in their last league games. Losses to Atletico Madrid, Eibar and Arsenal in the first leg of this tie means that they have gone without a win in their last three outings.

They are currently on a seven-game streak without a single clean sheet and have conceded last-minute goals in each of their last three games across all competitions, a disturbing occurrence Valencia coach, Marcelino has to be wary about.

They need to score two goals to get through to the finals on away goals and would have to ensure a clean sheet to make sure of that.

Unai Emery’s first season is somewhat somewhere in between success and failure and only an Europa league victory could win over critics to his side.

Arsenal were in a position where Champions League football was assured but one point from their last four outings has made a top-four finish an unlikely event.

That poor run of form has made winning this competition top priority for Unai Emery and his men. Arsenal haven’t been very impressive on away grounds and allowing an away goal on their home ground could well come back to haunt them.
