Can Someone tell if You View Their WhatsApp Status?

Since its inception in March 2017, WhatsApp status has become the favourite of many.

This saw it garnering more than 450 million daily users in early 2018.

From sharing one’s status to sending a secret message, WhatsApp status offers lots of benefits.

You can share snippets of your life through images and delectable captions.

Most times, you wonder if you can see your status viewers and who they can possibly be.

Can someone tell if You View Their WhatsApp Status?

Yes, WhatsApp allows one view the names of status viewers.

The eye- shaped icon below the screen reveals the details of the person who has view your WhatsApp status and time seen.

To find out, just swipe on the icon to check. Sometimes, you can’t tell the names of people who has viewed your story. Why?

In conjunction with the app’s read receipts, WhatsApp status viewed by feature works in such a way that if the other person inactivate their WhatsApp read receipts, you won’t be able to find their name on your Viewed by list.

This works as the Last Seen feature in WhatsApp.

Likewise, if you inactivate your read receipts, you won’t be able to tell who has viewed your story.

Can Everyone see Your Updates?

Normally, only those who have your contact saved in their phone book will be allowed to see your WhatsApp story.

You also need to save their numbers as well. You also have the choice of selecting who views your WhatsApp status.

There are three options you can choose from:

  • My contacts
  • My contacts except
  • Only share with

Just like the name, the first option allows all your contacts view your status. The second option restricts some contacts from getting updates.

You can possibly block people from seeing your status for good.

Similar to Instagram’s Close Friends feature, the third option shares your status with your favourites.

So, you see, Whatsapp offers you the option of picking your audience.

Note: If you’ve barred a contact, they’ll be able view your past statuses but after 24 hours, they’ll become restricted to that feature.

To adjust your Status Privacy, go to the Status tab, click on the three-dot icon and choose your options.

What about Third-party Apps?

Times without number, we’ve heard about third-party apps which claims to reveal information.

WhatsApp operates an end-to-end encrypted service which does not dole out information to third-party apps.

When you come across such apps, the best thing to do is ignore because you can never tell how these apps manage your data.

The authenticity of these apps can’t be guaranteed, given the encrypted feature of WhatsApp.

How to tell Who has Viewed Your WhatsApp Status
