J.K. Rowling Gets Backlash for Transphobic Tweets Again
Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling has found herself receiving backlash on Twitter as she made tweets considered transphobic.
The author made a tweet on Saturday in response to an opinion article discussing a “more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.”
“‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people,” Rowling wrote in response to the article. “Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

This isn’t the first time that Rowling has made transphobic comments. In 2019, she was criticized after supporting a woman who was fired over her transphobic tweets.
Meanwhile, after people called her out, she defended her tweets by saying it isn’t hate if she’s speaking the truth.
See Her Tweets Below:
If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.

I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.

One of my best mates just called me. Self-described butch lesbian. It was hard to tell, because she was shouting quite loudly, but I could just make out ‘FUCKING YES!’ https://t.co/yEbP8ygn1P

Meanwhile, many have criticized and blasted the author not only for the transphobic comments but for managing to talk about trans people while there’s currently a fight against racism.
