Manchester City Retain Premier League Crown With Win Over City

Phenomenal Manchester City have successfully defended their Premier League title with the title chase going down to the wire and to the final day of EPL action.

Pep Guardiola side took a trip to Amex stadium, home to Brighton and Hove Albion with their closest rivals Liverpool playing at home to Wolves.

Manchester City came from behind to humiliate Brighton and seal a win by a 4-1 scoreline and with the Premier League crown.

It is the fourth Premier League title for the Citizens and a comfortable relief for them having seen the lead at the summit of the table change hands over 30 times during the course of the campaign and captivating title race.

Liverpool led Manchester City by as many as seven points in January only to squander that lead and get beat by City to the title.

Man city have become the first team to win back-to-back titles since Manchester United last did in 2009 while their closest rivals in the two-horse race, Liverpool have amassed the largest number of points for a runner-up in England’s top flight history.

The Citizens still have the chance to complete a domestic treble when they take on Watford in the FA Cup finals next weekend, the 18th of May.

If City lifts the FA Cup, the seventh-placed team would have a go at the Europa league but would have to qualify via the second qualifying rounds.

Jurgen Klopp on Manchester City win

“We couldn’t really have done more. When your opponent is City, it’s difficult. They couldn’t get rid of us and we couldn’t get rid of them. We have improved so much to close a 25-point gap from last season. I’ve told the boys already: if we make the same steps next year, it’ll be a helluva season! This team has a wonderful age group. We will go again.”
