Manchester United Forced To Replay At Old Trafford After Stale Mate With Wolves

Manchester United were forced to a stalemate at the Molineux stadium by Wolverhampton Wanderers. More frustrating for the Red devils was that once again they fired blanks and were unfruitful in the final third. Their closest was probably a shot by Marcus Rashford which didn’t  go in, thanks to the saving grace of the upright.

The Manchester Club led by Norwegian gaffer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have now failed to find the back of the net in three of their last five matchups.

Matt Doherty could have put the rummaging Wolves ahead but his effort was well thwarted by the safe hands of Sergio Romero. The right back was once again at it in the closing minutes of the game. He infact, found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for a handball which occurred in its build-up.

Both sides were guilty of lacking creativity in the final third and paid dearly for it. Following the draw, they will be now forced to play a rematch at Manchester United ground, Old Trafford.

This Wolves side remain a familiar woe to United after they were dumped by these same opponents at the quarter finals of the cup last season.

Perhaps United’s deadliest finisher, Mason Greenwood produced the first threat of the game, however, his shot just sliced wide off the post.

That shot deserved a response and it was Roman Saiss who was at the end of it. However, his deflected header just drifted across the face of goal.

That wasn’t the end of the threat. In fact, Romero got his most difficult task. The resulting corner got to Leandro Dendoncker who made a sharp flick onto Doherty.

Doherty almost put the hosts ahead at the far post but a quick reflex from Romero denied the full-back some cheeky smiles and celebration.
