Nigeria Move Up 12 Places On FIFA World Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have received a reward for their third place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations as seen in their latest position on the FIFA World ranking.

Nigeria have moved some 12 places up the list to 33rd place in the FIFA world ranking released on Thursday for the month of July.

On the back of their impressive performance and third place finish, they have now moved up 12 places from 45th position accruing a total of 1481 points.

After finishing second to Madagascar in the group stages, the free attacking Eagles killed off five-time African champions, Cameroon in the round of 16 before going on to send South Africa packing from the quarter finals.

Nigeria, three time African Champions defeated Tunisia by a lone goal after losing out 2-1 to Alveria in the semifinal of the AFCON competition, no thanks to a last minute free kick by Riyad Mahrez.

Nigeria who have now claimed eight bronze medals since the inception of the Africa Cup of Nations still remain third in Africa in spite of their magnificent riss on the ranking. The Super Eagles still lag behind Senegal (20th) who finished runners-up and Tunisia (29th) who finished fourth in the continental competition.

Africa Champions, Algeria moved up 28 places to 40th position and fourth in Africa overall while Morocco are placed fifth in Africa and 41st in the world.

Belgium however remain the highest ranked team in the world, ahead of South American champions, Brazil in second place and France in third place.
