Nigerian Man Sentenced To Jail For Scamming People Through Instagram Page

A Nigerian man identified to be Afolabi Ojo popularly known as Kemisola has been jailed for setting up and running a fraudulent business page on famous social media handle, Instagram.

Mr. Afolabi Ojo, the offender and scammer, was falsely representing himself on an Instagram page named “Beat Classic Store” as a shoe and bag seller.

Through this means of representing himself on an Instagram page “Beat Classic Store”, he pretended to be a seller of shoes and bags.

Since Mr Afolabi Ojo received payment before he would be made, he used this as an opportunity to defraud a lot of people of their hard earned money while collecting money for deliveries he will not make.

Mr Afolabi Ojo, the offender, had initially pleaded “not guilty” to the charge of scamming people, but he later changed his plea to “guilty” on the amended one-count charge after serious evidence where presented against him.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, afterwards convicted him and sentenced him to six months in prison from the date of conviction having gone for the option of a plea bargain.

The victim, Afolabi Ojo had also undertaken to pay back the total sum of N45,000 falsely stolen from his victim during the course of his operation to defraud people of their hard earned money through false and pretence means.

The journey to the prison started for Afolabi Ojo, following a petition around June 2017, alleging that he participated in internet fraud also known as Yahoo Yahoo to also defraud people of their hard earned money through false means.

He opened a “Best Classic Store” on Instagram while having a page with the name Kemisola on which he showcased shoes and bags to be sold online through which he collects money for services he does not render to those who have paid for those goods he claims to be selling.
