Arsenal Vs Chelsea – Post Match Report

It was supposed to be a Super Saturday and a keenly contested match between Arsenal and Chelsea but it was the Gunners who made light work of their Blue counterparts as goals from Alexandre Lacazzette and Koscielny sent the Gunners only four points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

Take a look at our match preview here.

It took only four minutes for the Gunners to show that they meant business. Lacazette sent a slicing pass across goal to Aubameyang who shot just wide. Soon after, it was Sokratis who attempted a header at goal from a short corner but it wasn’t to be.

Arsenal obviously came for the win. They flew out of the traps, pulled and dragged the visitors around as every bit of the pitch felt their presence.

Eventual goalscorer Koscienly was up next as he brilliantly connected with a fully flighted Lucas Torreira free kick, but his header was pushed over the cross bar by Kepa Arrizbalaga.

The London Blues struggled for form as they continued to search for some bit of luck to hold off an overwhelming back.

The Gunner’s dominance was soon rewarded however when Hector Bellerin found Lacazette in the box. It was the striker’s first touch that made it all the more interesting as he pulled the ball away from the defender’s path and squeezed the ball far and beyond the reach of the keeper into the bottom corner.

There was more drama in the first half as a struggling Chelsea tried to take the lead via a Marcos Alonso shot but the defender’s shot went begging as it hit the woodwork.

Nonetheless, that wasn’t enough to stop a raging Emery side as Koscielny beat the offside trap to score the second for his side.

Half-time it was!

Chelsea began the second half on the strong foot – Sarri must have delivered some big speech at half time. But it didn’t matter as the Gunners were going to hold on to their lead for as much as they could and it worked.

All was working according to the gameplan for the home side until Hector Bellerin was stretchered off the pitch with Elneny brought in for the full-back.

Sarri must have looked to his bench to see what more attacking options he could muster. The Italian gaffer threw in Ross Barkley and Giroud but that couldn’t help as Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners.

Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea it ended.
