Biography of Niniola

Niniola is an afro-house singer, songwriter and energetic performer. The voluptuous songstress came third runner-up on MTN Project Fame competition. She broke into the Nigerian entertainment scene with her hit single “Ibadi” in 2015 which topped many music charts both locally and internationally.

Early life and background of Niniola

Born Niniola Apata on the 15th of December 1986 in Lagos, Nigeria. She’s a native of Ekiti state. She was raised in a polygamous family with a lot of siblings. Amongst her siblings is Teni, the “case” crooner. She attained her primary and secondary school education at Apata Memorial High School. she earned a bachelors degree in Biology education from the University of Lagos.

Niniola’s Rise to Fame

While growing up, she was involved in various social activities and competitions. She was known for her clear vocals and tagged ‘the human radio’ by her class mates. She finished third runner-up in the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa. Her role models in music include Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, The Cranberries, Madonna, Beyoncé and Angélique Kidjo. Niniola released her debut single “Ibadi” on 19 March 2014. The single hit received massive airplay in Nigeria and around the continent. Her singles “Ibadi” and “Gbowode” were included in the soundtrack for season 2 of Gidi Up. NotJustOk also included her on its list of the 15 Artists to Watch in 2015.

Niniola sure knows how to wow her audience with her energetic performances. Her song lyrics are mostly in her native language,Yoruba. Niniola has revealed that she loves her culture and language which makes her songs beautiful.
Niniola released another single “Maradona” in 2017. The song topped the South Africa’s Metro FM chart for 13 weeks, retaining the number 1 position for 6 weeks. In February 2018, The talented singer went on a media tour in South Africa. She also performed in South Africa Music Carnival in March 2018. In July 2018, she collaborated with the internationally known DJ Snake to release a hit single titled ‘Maradona Riddim’ which was based on her other hit single ‘Maradona.’

In 2019, “Find Your Way Back”, a song from Beyoncé’s soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift featured elements of “Maradona“. Niniola is also credited as one of the songwriters and composers of the track.
She is involved in a number of projects including the scholarship program which started in June 2015, “Adopt-A-Child’s-Education” project.

Niniola is the first female Nigerian Artiste to cross 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. She’s signed to Drum Roll Record Label.
