N-Power Jobs: 750, 000 graduates apply in 5 days

As at June 18, 2017, the number of graduate applicants in the N-Power job recruitment scheme was recorded to be 753,307. This number has exceeded the number of both graduate and non-graduate applicants in 2016  by 2307.

This was disclosed to journalists in Asaba, Delta State by Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job creation on Sunday. He went ahead to describe the figure, as a landmark.

According to him, the figure for 2017 was gotten just five days after the application portal was opened on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 as opposed to 2017 when the total application was gotten during the two and half months it was opened.

The SSA further stated that the teacher volunteer aspect of the scheme, recorded the highest applications so far with 470,456 while the Agriculture extension section of the scheme, N-Agro, followed with 127,315.

He mentioned that N-Health yielded 85,691 applications while the latest component, the N-Tax, yielded 69,842 applications in five days. Imoukhuede stated that in 2016 the total graduate applicants were 350,000 which is less than 50 per cent of the applications already received in less than one week of entries for 2017.

He informed the journalists that the large number of applications might be attributed to the fact that “a lot of graduates now believe in the scheme unlike the previous year when many were a bit skeptical and reluctant to apply. He said that in spite of the large number, the Federal Government would limit itself to the recruitment of 300,000 graduates in the current scheme in order not to exceed the budget for the programme’s this year.
