In the Nigerian educational sphere there are quite a myriad of universities who offer tertiary education in the country. Obviously some of these Universities offer a more conducive atmosphere for learning than others.

One thing is also sure, some universities in Nigeria offer more vibe, social activities, stress and have a more lively environment than others.

We previously brought you an article on the Top 10 Universities in Nigeria. That ranking was based on a few factors such as; impact, online presence and excellence.

In this article we would be looking at the Top 10 most interesting  universities in Nigeria. These are the universities were mind-blowing, interesting things happen.

#10. Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO)

Ever been to Owerri? The City is a beehive of activities from dusk till dawn. You rarely get bored in Owerri. This feature of the Imo State capital is what makes the Federal University of Technology Owerri a ‘no-dulling’ school.

Being the first and only Federal University of technology in Eastern Nigeria, FUTO is a one stop shop for many South-Easterners who intend in pursuing a career in Engineering or other disciplines related to technology. This university is interesting due to the environment in which it is located.

#9. University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)

If this were to be a ranking based on the excellence criteria we mentioned earlier, UNILORIN might find herself further up the list, but in this case were we are discussing interesting universities in Nigeria, so she finds herself on the 9th position. University of Ilorin is a centre for academic excellence and have constantly proven to be one of the best universities in Nigeria.

So what makes Unilorin interesting aside from being a good university? For one, this is a Federal University that rarely  joins in most ‘ASUU’ strikes (almost like a private university). Also, the university is quite swift in conducting academic activities -one could round up a 4-year degree program in just over 3-years (interesting right?).

Social life in Ilorin is not bad too. The university provides quite an interesting learning environment.

University of Calabar makes our list because of the unending social activities that goes on around the school, located in Nigeria’s former capital. You need not cross the school gate before you start hearing words like ‘Republic of Malabo’ an indication of the academic stress students never stop complaining about, but that does little in stopping students from having a swell time whenever they can.

UNICAL is reputed to have one of the most ‘radical’ students in Nigeria, students are not afraid to protest and vent their frustration when provoked. The school is also adorned with some of the most beautiful undergraduate ladies in Nigeria…mhmm.

#7. Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH)

We don’t really need to say much about LAUTECH do we? LAUTECH is located in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. While her elder sister the ‘University of Ibadan’ might claim all the academic accolades, LAUTECH catches the eye as one of the most interesting universities in Western Nigeria.

The school, aside from being a reputable citadel of learning is made an interesting place to be in because of the beehive of social activities that go on around the university.

The University of Jos always comes up each time we discuss Nigerian universities with some of the most interesting and eye-catching features. Were do we start from? Is it the beautiful campus environment or the academic-friendly weather. UNIJOS or ‘UJ’ as it is fondly called is a university that elucidates the characteristics of the basic idea of ‘College’ education.

The University of Jos does not lag behind in terms of social activities too. UNIJOS is an interesting institution you should definitely check out.

Igbo Kwenu!  Well, the University of Nigeria is one school that needs no introduction. Located in the heart of eastern Nigeria (Enugu), the University of Nigeria Nsukka is one of the oldest and most interesting institutions in Nigeria.

Some of our friends who were privileged to obtain a degree at UNN will always reiterate that UNN is a school that can give you anything you want.

“If na play you want or na book you wan read, as you want am na so UNN go give you.” They would always say. This tells you that University of Nigeria Nsukka is a world of its own.

#4. University of Benin (UNIBEN)

There are so many things we know about UNIBEN that we can’t put on print because of their unsubstantiated nature. However, If you want to know what we mean by that last sentence, ask the next UNIBEN student you see out there or better still you could visit and observe the school yourself.

Benin City is always an interesting City to be and so is her foremost University viz. University of Benin. The university is one packed with every interesting activity that befits a top university in Nigeria. You can’t school at UNIBEN and graduate with the same social orientation you got in with.

#3. University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)

Is there ever a dull moment at UNIPORT? Well, that would be on rare occasions when students are on a semester break. UNIPORT is one school where things happen. The university is also seen as a respectable academic centre, which is why UNIPORT often does well in rankings.

The environment around the oil-rich city is quite socially active one of the main feature that has rubbed-off on the school.

#2. University of Lagos (UNILAG)

Beaten to first place is UNILAG, not by much though. You can’t say you attended UNILAG and not get some people curious. Social activities, academic activities, busy campuses etc. you name it,UNILAG is one of most interesting universities in Nigeria.

We’ll stop here because there are few things we could say about UNILAG that you don’t already know.

For always popping up in the news for one reason or the other, you begin to wonder what life at the Obafemi Awolowo University must be like.

OAU makes it to the top of our list. Just like UNILAG, we can’t say too much about OAU because of its huge popularity. The alluring campuses, and the never ending academic and social activities makes OAU one of the most interesting tertiary institutions in the country.
