Lukaku Refreshed For New Challenge – Belgium Boss, Martinez

Romelu Lukaku has made quite an impression for the Belgian National team after his recent club switch.

His national team manager, Roberto Martinez has admitted this is the first time he’ll meet Big Rom so happy and focused, insisting that the striker will make waves for both club and country.

Lukaku who spent two seasons at Old Trafford following a move from Everton before moving to Inter Milan has already found the net twice on two occasions for Antonio Conte’s Milan.

Roberto Martinez speaking ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifier clash against Scotland in Group I said he has never seen the 26-year-old look so good.

He said the Big Belgian looked so focused and refreshed, ready to take on new challenges.

“This is the first time I have seen him free and happy. Going back to many camps I have not seen Rom so focused, so happy, so refreshed by the new challenge,” the Belgium gaffer told reporters.

“I think he is now ready to face one of the biggest footballing chapters in his career with the Inter Milan move. And he is very driven to be as good as he can for the national team, so I have been very impressed with his happiness and the way he is looking forward to the football ahead.”

Lukaku was an unused substitute in Italy’s clash with San Marino where they thumped the small nation by a 4-0 scoreline. Michy Batshuayi was given the nod instead and repaid his manager’s faith in him by tucking in a brace.

Belgium currently sit top of the pile in Group I for Euro 2020 qualifying having secured five wins from five games, scoring 25 goals and conceding just one.

Still, Martunez remains wary of the threat that Scotland pose despite the Red devils finishing them off with a 3-0 score line in June.

“I expect a really tough game,” Martinez said.
